UK: North Sea Oil Recovery and Potential for Energy Transition
The UK, known for being one of the leading producers of oil in Europe via North Sea platforms, is implementing a number of innovative projects to secure its future as a hydrocarbon producer while contributing to the energy transition to cleaner sources.
One of the most relevant projects is BP's Advanced Oil Recovery Project in the North Sea, which is focused on the recovery of remaining oil using enhanced recovery (EOR) techniques. These technologies use gas and water injection to maximize oil extraction from fields that would otherwise be considered economically unviable. The implementation of these technologies has allowed BP and other North Sea operators to increase production without the need for new platforms, reducing both costs and environmental impacts.
The North Sea has been a key source of oil for the UK since the 1970s, but reserves are in decline. Through EOR, companies can extend the life of existing fields, which represents a significant advantage for the UK's energy supply. In addition, the region remains important for job creation and infrastructure maintenance in the country's coastal areas.

Although the UK is moving towards a low-carbon future, oil production remains an important part of its economy, especially as the transition to renewable energy takes place. Oil projects in the North Sea continue to be attractive to investors due to regulatory stability and technological advances in oil extraction.
